01 / DESKTOP
A native window on your Billable account, plus a menu-bar timer you can start and stop without switching apps. Cmd+Shift+B starts and stops it from anywhere.
These are alpha builds. They point at the alpha environment and install alongside the real app rather than over it. Below is each platform.
Unsigned and un-notarized, so macOS will refuse it on the first try: open it, get "Billable Alpha cannot be opened", then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. That is Gatekeeper doing its job on a build with no certificate, not a broken download.
Same build for Intel Macs, and the same Gatekeeper detour. If you are not sure which Mac you have, check → About This Mac: an Apple M-series chip wants the card above.
Unsigned, so SmartScreen will say "Windows protected your PC" — More info, then Run anyway. It installs for the current user only, which keeps it from asking for an administrator whose prompt would read "Publisher: Unknown". Signing needs a certificate on a hardware token, which is a purchase rather than a build change.
The same app as a zip. Extract it anywhere and run "Billable Alpha.exe" — there is no installer, which matters because an unsigned installer is the fragile part: antivirus and SmartScreen remove the setup file mid-run, and NSIS unpacks from that file as it goes, so the install stops partway and leaves a shortcut pointing at nothing. Nothing to uninstall either; delete the folder. Take the ARM build if this is a Surface Pro X or a Snapdragon machine, otherwise x64.
A browser cannot tell an Apple silicon Mac from an Intel one, so the guess above is only a guess. Apple menu, then About This Mac: a line labeled Chip means Apple silicon, and one labeled Processor means Intel.
02 / MEANWHILE
The whole product runs in a browser on macOS, Windows and Linux. The desktop app adds a window and a timer; it does not add features you cannot reach here.
Send a note saying which platform you want and you will get a message when there is something signed to install.
